§ 1141(d)(3) does not apply:

To receive a discharge, an individual debtor is not required to complete a course in personal financial management.  The CA must review the debtor's Certificate and Request for Entry of Discharge (Local Form MSSB-4004-Cert) to determine whether the debtor must file the certificate of completion.

§ 1141(d)(3) does apply:

To receive a discharge, an individual debtor must complete a personal financial management course with an approved course provider and file the certificate of completion if the course provider does not.  See Personal Financial Management Certificate-Debtor.

Each debtor must complete the course and file a certificate in a joint case. A list of approved providers is available at www.justice.gov/ust.

If the debtor cannot complete the course for one of the below reasons, the debtor must file a motion requesting an exemption or waiver from taking the course. See Exemption from Financial Management Course.

  • Incapacity (mental) or disability (physical).
  • Due to being in active military duty in an active combat zone.
  • Debtor resides in a district where the US Trustee waived the requirement.
